tell me why i need to be able to find y when y= x(a-b) if a= 56, b= 6 and x= 8
(its 400, y =400)
like at no point ever is a cashier finna be like your total is y= x(a+b) and then give me numbers like?????????

It's more about exposing you to higher math, which is needed in certain fields (like engineering, for example). Also, it can train your brain to look at problems differently. Later, you may not remember how to do all this, but you'll remember it exists, and that it can be applied to other issues.
I don't remember how to find the circumference of a circle (something pi 😂) - but I know it's possible - though I use a calculator to find it for me when I'm working on sewing projects. 😂
