People have no idea how much hands on, intensive care vent patients need. They don't stop producing mucus when they get intubated. The lungs accumulate fluid and need to be manually suctioned. That's a discrete task that needs to be performed A LOT for every vent patient. Or they die!
This task puts the caregiver at waaaaay higher risk of infection and you need new disposable PPE each time. It is a real burden and caregivers will die as a result.
@Expecting_Words my mum died of respiratory issues in ITU... I've seen first hand what staff had to do. Hard enough even when you're not covered in PPE. Full respect to them all and we need to keep them safe....
