You may recognize this as "Check Fraud".
There's apparently SOOOOO many TikTok videos of people whining how their accounts are locked with negative balances and they're getting calls from federal investigators who "have questions".
Some of these dumbasses even took out and paid off Payday Loans, thinking it would mean investigators would hunt the money down from the payday loan place instead of them. π€¦π»ββοΈ
@Heucuva8 I LOVE these TikTok "trends", because it just highlights the stupid people that fall for them.
Oh.
Well.
No, don't do that. Jeeeezus. No. Come ON people.
First of all, it won't work, because checks take time to clear, the money isn't immediately available so if you don't have $10,000 in your checking account it won't magically appear there.
I'm sad that people would fall for that. You know someone has.
@Heucuva8 @janallmac FFS. Do they not know how checks work?! Your own check, from your own bank account....Where do they think the money is coming from, the Tooth Fairy?!
This is why we need mandatory financial education classes in high school. Even just the basics of banking and bills and making a budget....Fuck Sake....

Nevermind that ATMs don't disburse that much
Yeah, the instructions said to do small amounts per transaction... π€·π»ββοΈ I guess they didn't know how ATMs work either.
@Heucuva8 @janallmac @Evereigh
Also, you can't withdraw the full amount of a check unless it's been verified. Either by ATM or with a teller.
Problem is, when you deposit by ATM, sometimes it doesn't put it on hold automatically. That's what Chase found with theirs. So people were getting to withdraw, but it hadn't cleared yet.
@Heucuva8 @janallmac @Evereigh
Ah. Got it.
Still, the idea that they'd not face consequences is pretty funny.
I did some ATM trickery in the around 1990 when I was desperate, but I knew it would have consequences.
So it doesn't actually work, but here's how it "works"...
Get a check from your checkbook, deposit it in a local ATM, then withdraw however much you want (even $10000 or more π).
Then Chase can't do anything since you already have the money. πππ
Oh, my eyes hurt.
