I am going to have to put my foot down, with my teenagers.
Neither one of them has a drivers license. They have been through driver's ed, they COULD get them, they don't want to. My son (18) is scared to drive, my daughter(17) says she's "too busy" to study for the test. Yet, they still want social lives, but expect my hubbs and I to give them rides.
I am done. You want a social life? Get your license. They have 2 cars sitting in the driveway they could drive! They can take mine too! SMH
@Evereigh I didn't get my drivers license until I was 18 (needed one to join the Army, where, ironically, I ended up basically teaching drivers ed). But back then, I could get around easily on my bicycle and didn't need a parental chauffer.
I think it’s a todays kids kind of thing- grandson didn’t get his till he was 19 +. I was pounding down the bmv door at 8am when I was 16, 1mo, 1 day- the requirement of the time.
I agree. The delicious irony is that my son, who does drive, is now driving his licenseless friends around. It’s shifting is attitude from, “but she doesn’t _want_ to drive” to “she needs to just go get damn her license.”
@Evereigh we made ours get his license as well. Wanted him to have a year driving under our watch before college. He’s fine now, but it was like pulling teeth.
