Really struggling recently. Am afflicted with narcolepsy. I've been taking Adderall for it for nearly 10 years. There's a nationwide Adderall shortage due to one of the 2 generics cos that manufacture it having to stop production after a patient discovered tiny bits of metal in their pills. My doc rx'd Ritalin as a substitute but nowhere near an equal dose & has refused to change the rx. Anyone else experiencing problems?

@Embers I hadn't heard about the adderall shortage but that's really bad news for a lot of folks. That's weird he won't up your ritalin dose. I've been self medicating with monster because they won't give me medication due to tachycardia. It's a really frustrating condition. I hope you get this solved soonest.

@MsJudyJetson Wow am sorry to hear you're having to self medicate! Are the docs not trying to determine the cause of or at least treating your tachycardia? I was shocked my doc wouldn't change the rx as he's been my PCP for over 20 years now, knows I used to be a nurse so am medically knowledgeable & have been using the same meds/dosages for years. Pharmacologically 15mg Adderall 2x daily = 30mg ritalin 2x daily. He rx'd only 20mg once a day. Ritalin also only lasts 3-4 hrs vs Adderall 4-6 hrs.

@Embers I have like... 35 conditions? They have given up on sorting it all out, incl the sleep specialist. I'm on disability now which is good because I was falling asleep at my desk, in meetings, having microscope while driving. It's crazy how little attention is put on sleep disorders. I know what u mean about Ritalin. I took it 2x day for exactly that reason.

@MsJudyJetson Falling asleep while driving was the scariest thing for me as I had a 2-3 hour commute each way for a long time and consider myself damned lucky I never crashed or injured anyone! Not working now..haven't since 2019 when the company I worked at for 18 years was acquired & my job was outsourced overseas. Finding a decent job when you're 59 isn't easy then covid hit..not any easier at 62 plus between Adderall and Norco I'd never pass a drug screen.

@MsJudyJetson Hubby & I do cat rescue & TNR but for two years due to covid we couldn't have anyone come to see/adopt the cats/kittens. So now we have 39 adult cats (13 are "ours") & everyone wants kittens. Scooping 17 boxes twice a day, feeding wet food twice a day, making sure there's enough dry food 24/7, cleaning/filling 5 fountains as needed, & cleaning up furball barf several times daily is difficult as hell when you can't stay awake! Hubby works 48-72 hr shifts so it's often just me here.

@Embers that is a lot of cats! I used to volunteer at a rescue that had an area for cats. It's some work.

@MsJudyJetson It is a lot and I forgot the 5 outdoor ferals we feed and the emaciated feral that dragged itself into our yard who we netted, took to the vet, and now have him in a big cage in our heated garage trying to cure his infections which is tough as he's elderly and FIV+. On his 3rd round of antibiotics now & he's gained 6 lbs but he may become a hospice cat if we can't get him healthy enough to neuter. He seems to be less scared of us now at least, have been caring for him for 2 months.
