@racouncil Am truly not surprised by this. When he announced the change to Meta and I saw it was going to attempt the whole VR using avatars thing I just shook my head. We had similar chat environments using avatars and 3D environments back in the 90s when a huge number of computer users still had dial up connections. Anyone else remember the Tiki lounge with its beach environment you could walk around and engage with other people's avatars & listen to the waves washing onto the beach?

@racouncil Granted it wasn't as evolved as VR is now but it was still pretty cool for back then yet the venture failed abysmally. People have so many options for interacting over the internet now with real time video calls/conferencing, that it seemed Zuckerberg setting his sights on virtual environments was a big step backwards. The tech is also highly resource intensive/demanding so very expensive. Worse I don't think it excited the young audience demographic he was hoping to co-opt/addict. 🤷‍♀️
