Turns out that when you have more than two big supermarket chains to choose from, prices are lower.

@DyDave not really in 🇨🇦. we need a bit more competition. but all the biggies are owned by 2-3 companies. that's it.
We have two chains that control 65% of the market. They basically collude to rip people off mercilessly and have been getting away with it for decades. 🤷🏼♂️
@DyDave yes, that's us! and they've actually been caught once in awhile. then fined. then gone on to continue to do it.
They use the money they make ripping people off to pay the fines, then rip people off more to pay bonus dividends to shareholders.
And, at the other end, they collude to rip off farmers by artificially keeping produce prices low, so taxpayers have to help keep the farmers afloat to guarantee food supplies so that prices in the supermarket don’t go up even more.
It’s quite the scheme 🤷🏼♂️
