@DyDave but why are they shocked? if they're catholic, they know the church's position which has been very very consistent. what i am shocked by is that these women continue to belong & serve the catholic church. if you truly feel this way, why not leave? in droves?
cuz that would send the biggest message to the church.
it sits on trillions. and has barely paid a dime in recompense to the victims of the pedos they have hidden, protected, & abetted.

For Belgians, Christianity came in the fourth or fifth century CE, and the Roman kind wasn’t really challenged until the 15th/16th. It’s all just how people get on.
Organisations tell people what they what they want to hear to get them on board too.
@DyDave oh, i went to catholic school from k-12. i get the indoctrination. but these women sent a very clear letter to the pope. for them to think as they do & still be going to a catholic institution, is weird to me.
i have friends who criticize the church yet still belong. they also know, it ain't changing anytime soon. they've made their peace w/ how they practice their faith.
but they know a letter like that isn't going to get the results they want. not even w/ a pope like francis.

I once had an Irish friend who experienced abuse at the hands of priests. He told his mum - his dad had died before this - and she beat him for being a liar because she couldn’t imagine the priests doing these things.
People know. It’s just that the alternative has successfully been marketed as unacceptable to them, so they maintain the status quo.
