Here's an amazing video demonstrating how quickly the conversion of "a boring patch of grass" to a pond with native plants and a couple of nesting boxes attracted a multitude of local wildlife. There are 2 or 3 ads sprinkled throughout the video but it's worth sitting/skipping through them. He doesn't identify the location but it sounds like this was in an eastern province of Canada. A beautiful and inspiring success story.

@doctordk I pay no special attention to my yard. No obsessive grass seeding, watering, zero 'weed' treatment. Whatever grows, stays. I have no shortage of bird visits, pollinators, toads, garter snakes, crickets, plus the usual assortment of squirrels, chipmunks, etc. Grass is boring.
