I'm currently in the middle of reading L.A. Noir: The Struggle for the Soul of America's Most Seductive City, by John Buntin, which is basically about corruption in last century Los Angeles.
Somehow the news that California has a lot of political corruption doesn't surprise me.
@carmen The Democratic supermajority was listed as only one of several factors, and only in the context of explaining how one party control leads to corruption.
Growing up just outside of Boston that was clearly the case there, too. But it's not confined to one political party -- consider Texas.
@Coctaanatis It doesn't have anything to do with Democratic control, as the NY Times purports. There are plenty of cases of Republican malfeasance here too. It is the lack of journalistic oversight and low voter turnout.
