They think they can use Trump to push their regressive cultural values on the rest of us in the form of limitations on democracy and rolling back gay (and other) rights.

(Ironically, in 2015-16 Trump ran to the left of other GOP candidates on most social issues.)

That also has an appeal to many hispanics and Indians who come from less permissive cultures.
