@Coctaanatis: (cont'd.)
People always thought and think computers are difficult, but unless you're networking, it really isn't. My late grandmother was fearful of computers in the 1990s, but by 2000 she and her fellow sexagenarian siblings were blazing away.
Many things are only difficult because people think and/or have heard from others who themselves usually know precisely dick that the things are difficult.
@thedisasterautist I'm reminded of the old mainframes with toggle switches, blinking lights, punch cards, and magnetic tape.
Computers have become easier to use even as they've become far more powerful.
@Coctaanatis: Affirmative. I remember the old System/38s and then the AS/400s.
@thedisasterautist 👍 And if you're just filing the 1040 EZ, you're probably already eligible for one of the free services, anyway.
@Coctaanatis: There was never a shortage of people who "couldn't understand" or were still so fearful of making a mistake on the EZ and being sent to prison or financially destroyed by the IRS (though that'd never ever happen but for tax fraud) that they still came in to pay for service at the tax prep office.
@Coctaanatis: I cannot imagine the new campaigns by tax preparation firms, the ones that are really not required for the majority individuals. It's gonna be funny.
From where I do speak? I worked for Jackson-Hewitt and for H&R Block. Most individuals and families only ever struggle with filing taxes because they've always been told it's "harder than Chinese algebra" and such.
I volunteered for years at tax time at the public library "tax clinic". People were astonished. It's like computers.
