Life expectancy in the US dropped 0.9 years in 2021. This follows a 1.8 year drop in 2020.

The biggest declines were for non-Hispanic American Indian-Alaskan people (1.9 years in 2021). Their life expectancy has declined by 6.6 years from 2019 to 2021.

Declines in life expectancy were largely, but not exclusively, due to COVID-19.
