Just reading this morning about the continued efforts in western NC after #helene. Not sure what is happening about FEMA efforts, but Appalachia doesn't wait. They are sending in mule packers with supplies in the most devastated areas.
@CinnamonGirlE There are a few spots on the pacific crest trail where resupply packages get shipped in by horse trains. VVR is like that, and I passed a few as I trekked north.
Appalachia has taken one hell of a hit, but I know they are a very strong and resilient folk out there that have always been very keen to do for themselves.
@NiveusLepus
The devastation here is like nothing I have ever personally seen. But country folks do things differently. These people take care of their own. Even if they are backwards MAGA.

@CinnamonGirlE My partner, Jesse, is from Waynesville. He's the second generation "Off the mountain"
Ive met some of his family from that area and they are a remarkably resilient and industrious folk. They are also highly mistrusting of anything government which I wonder if it will hamper the federal response.
@CinnamonGirlE When I met them, back in 2013, the tattoos and my general oddness took them back a step, but Jesse just explained that I was from the west coast, and it became the default answer for everything.
"You don't eat meat?"
"I"m a vegan"
THey'd look one to the another nod and say..." She's from California"
It still makes me chuckle.
@NiveusLepus
I get it completely. I am not sure how I got set down here in lots of ways. I am polar different from the most of them. But the pride in being Appalachian is inbred and I understand it.
I can see them saying it to you and about you. As an explanation. She is from California, bless her heart. 😉😊
@CinnamonGirlE That's very much how I feel about being a Texan. In so many ways I am not a default texan but I'll always be from here.
@NiveusLepus
You understand completely. 🥰
@NiveusLepus and sister; I understand that completely. Still trying to survive it. 😉
@NiveusLepus very fortunate. I live in the foothills, so other than the normal flooding we get, and power and cell outages, things were fairly calm for this event in comparison. Thanks for asking 🥰
@CinnamonGirlE I'm so glad you're doing ok after all that! You mater buddy. I care about you. ^_^
@NiveusLepus
Thank you, you too ❣️
@CinnamonGirlE How did the storm effect you? Are you doing ok on that front?
