Somewhere in the sulcus of my brain lies the memories of that summer, and the endless discussion on tv and Walter Cronkite leading us all through it.
@CinnamonGirlE There's a place over on the Air Force side where the original Mercury Mission Control Center was. Across the street was where a bank of phones for the press was. The bank is still there, lying in the grass, but the phones of course are long gone.
When I go there, I often think, "Walter Cronkite was here using these phones."
