Don't. Compost them to improve your soil and provide habitat for the smallest creatures. Shredded or partially rotted leaves make great mulch to retain moisture, too.

We have yard waste collected with our weekly garbage pickup. Separate huge bin. It goes to a place where they compost everything. Of course, there's a fee for that and a fee to buy it back as compost - but it's rich & te garden loves it. Maybe your local refuse agency can start one, if there's enough community interest.
