You thought the national racism was exposed when Barack Obama ran for President.. then you heard that upon his election that racism was over.
Well, gird your loins.. You will hear racist and sexist comments galore in the coming months, immediately followed by:
"Lighten up, it's only a joke."
"I was only kidding."
"But am I wrong?"
"I'm just saying."
"What about.."
..Not just from facebook and twitter comments, but also from fairly intelligent people you know and love and once admired..
@evamarie Truth be told.. I am glad I am skipping the beach house family reunion this summer. I just don't have it in me to a-fix the fake smile and ignore the Fox News based messaging. I don't feel like not losing my temper. I am tired of self-correcting to not make waves. I am tired of being called "comrade" just because I think govt should help people and opportunities should be more available. I do not want to be around my brothers. Sad but true.
The silver lining to the pandemic?
Oh, Chippy, I do feel for you having such close family members being on the opposite side of the political divide, especially now, right before an election.
My uncle and his wife are avid tRumpers, the rich kind who only care about money. My uncle was not like this before he married this woman but he sure is now. I’ve had to just tell them in no uncertain terms never to bring up politics in my presence.
It’s harder with siblings b/c they don’t respect boundaries. 🙁
@ChippySuave
After #MeToo and the George Floyd #BLM movement, the “I was just kidding” defense to racist and sexist jokes is going to wear thin.
Not funny.
