Before the Late Unpleasantness I always likened liberals and conservatives to the accelerator and the brakes.
You need both: liberals to say "Here's a problem, and here's all the great things we could do to fix it!" and conservatives to say, "Now hold on just a minute, we have to consider possible unintended consequences, and also whether we really want the *government* to be the one to try to fix that."
I always say liberals care more about people & conservatives care more about money.
Seriously, pick any issue & the conservative argument always goes back to money.
My thinking...you can't take it with you. So why not make the lives of other human beings better while we're here?
