@FPonTheDL the COP conference. The fence/fort has been up for about. Week.
@FPonTheDL they have. And sq and rcmp. Just back from Canadian tire getting safety goggles for my kid.
@Camerondotca the “freedumb” convoy lasted a whole 2 days here. Those ppl were all from outside of Quebec City, the cops gave them a 12 hour notice they were going to tow them all.
@FPonTheDL Montreal held their hands.
@Camerondotca During the G7? Uhm no. Montréal came as backup. My friend was a cop for 20 years and has been a detective for 4 years now. They had detectives, the entire police force and firefighters doing 16 hour shifts 6 days a week for the G7
@FPonTheDL no, the freedum people. They let them march and they wandered about for a wee while.
@Camerondotca Ah in Montreal. Yeah not here in Quebec City. I can’t imagine how ppl here would react if the “Queen of Canada” showed up here. I’m pretty sure she would be laughed out of the city
@FPonTheDL honestly, I'm fine with/encourage protest. But hostage taking like the Freedum folks? Or just watching the fash wander about the place? Like there is a vast difference between "you're not doing enough to save the planet for our generation so now we're going to scare you a bit by being very very angry" protestors and "look, they don't want death camps, they just want an ethnostate" protestors.
@Camerondotca there is a vast difference. The police takes a different stance for each protest. For the G7 it was fences, protection of diplomats and such. They honestly had no issues during the G7 because protesters all heard various hate groups were going to infiltrate the crowd so they didn’t attend. Hate groups planned on using the cover of the crowd, so it didn’t work as the SPVQ was tracking hate groups online.
@Camerondotca for the Summit of the Americas they took the same stance. Protect those attending and the city. Protesters were throwing tear gas and glass bottles at police officers, so the cops reacted.
For the freedumb convoy they watched for 2 days then told them all they needed to be out of downtown in 12 hours or they would get towed.
@FPonTheDL "some protestors did that and then the police overreacted and had a riot of their own" would also be another way to describe the G20
@FPonTheDL sorry summit of the americas.. I get the walled secret meetings confused honestly
@Camerondotca my best-friend was literally on the front line at the Summit of the Americas. She got tear gases like crazy by protesters and had broken bottles thrown at her. She was right where all the protesters were. Cops here have a water cannon because of the St-Jean riots in 1995-1996-1997. I think a few ppl got hosed during the summit.
@Camerondotca They should have asked Quebec City for backup. Our cops are trained for this. We had the G7 in 2018, summit of the Americas in 2001 and St-Jean Baptiste riots in 1995, 1996, 1997. My best-friend was on the front line for the first two. Our cops know how to deal with this stuff. They are hardcore trained for crowd and riot control.
