So the City of Montreal just announced a new chief of police. He's got a good rep, even with some the harshest critics of the SPVM. I really hope he can fix the mess.
Because holy shit it's a mess. We have the most police per capita of any city in Canada. Around 70% of us don't trust them. A high percentage of us (this is sort of a self-selected sample so I won't pretend it's a perfect number) want to defund/or at least look at reallocating their money. Something like 70%+ of the police don't live in the City they police. And the Brotherhood of police men and women (no, I"m not kidding) seems to run the show.
@Camerondotca 💯 that goes for most cities in 🇨🇦 i think. if we were under any illusions about who the police in this country protect, the freedumb convoy helped shatter them entirely.
.. meanwhile they just announced that, whoopsies, they've gone 10s of millions over budget again. FOR THE SECOND YEAR IN A ROW.
