It’s possible that a) I miss arguing in the bird site more than I realize b) chaos/rage are my brand. I say this because I have show my claws twice in the last 12 hours. Once on Facebook and once on mastodon and, gos help me, it felt good.
@lilyunsub well there is that, for sure, but also that the people on Facebook are wrong. 😜 the mastodon case was an overreaction on his part to my super gentle “erm… how about this point”. I caught a strong whiff of libertarian/tech bro from him.
@Camerondotca Spending long enough on a site that was set up to be a battleground - which occasionally was even a good thing as well as a bad thing - can probably make that attitude sticky...
@Camerondotca I say sometimes a thing needs bitching at.
@PamsMyth they’re all so dumb and wrong Pam. So so wrong
@PamsMyth The Facebook people are super vexing. We just had 18 months of redoing a street beside our house. 4 meters down, all new infrastructure then protected bike paths, narrower road, trees. I love the result (my love for the process is mitigated by discovering leftover trauma from earthquakes). There are people blaming the mayor for delivery people stopping illegally...
@PamsMyth ... there are people who are convinced that protected bike lanes are more dangerous (but who cares because bikes never, apparently, ever stop at stops), There are people who are upset about the smaller lanes.. basically, there are two main camps (with much overlap) 1) car primacy/never question the status quo 2) those who hate our (woman) mayor.
@Camerondotca People are still bitching about our bike lanes and our mayor who hasn't been the mayor for three years and is instead goddamn Secretary of Transportation. (rolls eyes dramatically) I liked the old days when "how" people were wasn't anybody else's goddamn business.
@PamsMyth It's insane. Less than 7 % of our roading/transport infrastructure is for what we'll call "not vehicles" and they whine like babies. AND STILL in the 10 minute walk ot a local shop I nearly got hit twice.
@PamsMyth they came back and told me that my interpretation is in my head.. so yeah, I did my second block in 2 days.
@Camerondotca it could be that you are in the process of detoxing. it's not instantaneous. nothing is...
@redenigma or that I am fundamentally set off by gits. But yeah, let's go with detox.
@Camerondotca i post stuff i KNOW is going to set off the right wingnuts & lolbertarians on the town dumpster fire. i've been snarky online since usenet, so it's definitely a habit :) i do mostly manage to confine it there though
@redenigma Yeah, my Facebook one was gentle by twitter standards, partially because it was on a group based on our postal code.
@Camerondotca i don't let that stop me (although i'm not going to run for office here in March again. i'll accept write in votes, but these idiots are not worth volunteering my free time on)
@Camerondotca also, i'm actively looking to move out of state, so asking to be elected for a 3 year commitment seems unfair to the town
@redenigma yeah, that only seems fair.
@Camerondotca NH has tax relief called "current use" for properties over 10 acres. there are various levels of reduction depending on use. i have 5 or 6 acres of pasture, 15 acres of sugarbush, and a managed woodlot. (it costs me money to file the management plan for that & to keep it up). i have to provide a map to the town showing what each area is.
my property was in current use when i bought it, but i have changed woodlot to managed woodlot (a 45% higher reduction, but more work)
1/2
@Camerondotca i also have 20 acres of wetlands, which are very low tax anyway since they aren't usable. that's a third of my property
if one decides to take a property out of current use, one has to pay all the back taxes to when it was placed in current use. that's to dissuade development, i suspect, but in the case of my property, there's no way to develop further due to terrain & state ordinances anyway
@Camerondotca its part of the dopamine trap of social media. Thats why it feels good. There are better ways to get the fix but its an addiction like anything else.
