In my federal government career, I've worked in a group of Five Eyes (FVEY) countries (US, UK, NZ, Can, & Oz) - our system here is a joke that we can't keep Russia out of our halls of power.
@Bix My imagination is wild, but here is how it played out in my silly head.
"We are going to completely destroy the US and take it over."
Dem: "We have a system of checks and balances and a constitution that will prevent it"
"Here's 10 million bucks. You can flee anywhere you like"
Dem: "Cool beans"
@Bix @QueenOfEverything
Forgot China... Our advantage in tech... Poof...
CHIPs act or not...
Taiwan and TSMC part of mainland soon enough...
@Bix Exactly. I go back and forth about whether the Constitution is, or isn’t, a possible suicide pact - giving sufficient rights and powers to political efforts to snuff it out.
If defending the country, the Constitution, from hostile foreign influence is a fundamental aspect of the government, I think that our approach must change. Our public policy must be clear that hostile foreign influence is considered an attack and our reaction must be swift and proportionate.
@Bix I have been imbittered many many times, being brown and ovaried. BUT, 20th century was waaaay worse! Kennedy Brothers messed with money.
Martin Luther King protesting with garbage workers.. messed with money.
Malcolm X.. after returning from Africa.. messed with money.
And you see where that led.
these are the most famous.. a WHOLE lot of citizens died because they wanted their fair share.. and we ALL paid for the "game of thrones" actions of the oligarchs. But we ALWAYS get back up.
The Dems keep turning a blind eye to our slide into dictators' arms, decade after decade.
All that I can figure is that they don't care.
I guess that Russia, Saudi Arabia, & and a few others will know everything that the CIA & NSA /DOD knows - billions and billions of dollars worth of secrets and research.
