The were so many great detective stories in the late 1800's. Many to most people could now read, and magazines were the TV & Radio entertainment of that time.

Auguste Groner's (Vienna, Austria) Det. Joseph Müller (pub: 1890-1922) were great stories.

Sherlock Holmes is The Beatles of detective stories but there were other ones that were just as good as SH.

@Bix Who's your favorite Holmes? Other than Jeremy Brett. 😉

I loved the recent BBC Sherlock Holmes, but I am not an expert on the movies.
