💔 the last three baby birds were stolen in the day, maybe a squirrel or a crow… the empty nest and the silence is awful… the daddy came looking for them twice last night :(

my daughter convinced me that it’s possible they all just flew away. The one that flew away on Tuesday still had the crazy fur on his head, so even though the three remaining did, also, it’s still conceivable they could also fly.

@Armchaircouch what type of bird were they? Fledglings are about 2 weeks old when they start to venture out 💕🐥

I think based on the color of the red dad and the brown mom, they are house finches, so they can fly between 12-15 days-ish. I first saw the babies at April 22, so they were probably born around the 20th.
so… right around the time to fly is now… @Valkyrie_D

@Armchaircouch Finches are highly territorial birds. There is a good chance they are protecting their nest. If you’ve never seen a finch destroy another finch’s nest, it’s quite violent.

@Armchaircouch Finches will not only steal the nest, they will take the girly bird for their own. I was traumatized the first time I watched an attack. Cute little home destroying machines.

And they do mate multiple times a season, so you might see another baby family.

well that is upsetting, especially because I watched these two parents build their nest and he fed her for weeks before their babies were born, and then they both tended them. It was very cute! @misslovelymess @Valkyrie_D
