๐Ÿ’” the last three baby birds were stolen in the day, maybe a squirrel or a crowโ€ฆ the empty nest and the silence is awfulโ€ฆ the daddy came looking for them twice last night :(

~ May they fly in heaven forever with angels ๐Ÿค

my daughter convinced me that itโ€™s possible they all just flew away. The one that flew away on Tuesday still had the crazy fur on his head, so even though the three remaining did, also, itโ€™s still conceivable they could also fly.

here is the Tuesday video, shortly before one of them took flight.

@Armchaircouch what type of bird were they? Fledglings are about 2 weeks old when they start to venture out ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿฅ

I think based on the color of the red dad and the brown mom, they are house finches, so they can fly between 12-15 days-ish. I first saw the babies at April 22, so they were probably born around the 20th.
soโ€ฆ right around the time to fly is nowโ€ฆ @Valkyrie_D

@Armchaircouch Finches are highly territorial birds. There is a good chance they are protecting their nest. If youโ€™ve never seen a finch destroy another finchโ€™s nest, itโ€™s quite violent.

@Valkyrie_D

lol! crazy ass birdsโ€ฆ These were just raising their babes, never a territory dispute, but thatโ€™s good to know! @misslovelymess @Valkyrie_D

@Armchaircouch Finches will not only steal the nest, they will take the girly bird for their own. I was traumatized the first time I watched an attack. Cute little home destroying machines.

And they do mate multiple times a season, so you might see another baby family.

Oh my gosh!!

well that is upsetting, especially because I watched these two parents build their nest and he fed her for weeks before their babies were born, and then they both tended them. It was very cute! @misslovelymess @Valkyrie_D

@Armchaircouch I adored watching the wrens that nested in our boxes pre-Lola. There are two houses next to each other, the male makes two nests (one in each) and then the female comes to inspect and decide which one is acceptable to her standards. And then he hangs in the other one to guard and give her space. I miss Mr. & Mrs Chubbs. They stop by to say hello early in the season, but no longer nest there. Because Lola.
