Oh, I will totally get gifts for people. But it's gotta be a "I saw this and though about you" kind of moment, and I do that throughout the year. Also, it may be little things I give just to make things a little merrier. But yes, the family agreeing on the not-gift-giving plan takes a lot of stress out of the equation.
Yeah, I will also give things to people if I see an opportunity and I think they'd like it.
But I was buying things that I suspected people didn't want or need just to check the box. And I was receiving gifts like that too--really depressing.
But yes to more merriment!

The best thing my (all-adult) family ever did was to declare a moratorium on Christmas gifts. Sister suggested it--I wouldn't dare--and I readily agreed. We've all got enough stuff.
Now we just get together for a nice dinner. It's made the holidays pleasant again. 🎄
