"The only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about" (Oscar Wilde)

It occurs to me that Florida's insane proposed law to require bloggers who discuss their government officials to register with the state -- a law that is 100% unenforceable -- is it gets those politicians a lot of free publicity from bloggers who will talk about them just to defy the law.

Maybe it's time to stop using the names of more GOP politicians in news stories and on line posts. Just refer to "the current governor of Florida" or "the US Representative from the first district of Florida" without mentioning their names.

@AlphaCentauri Do we really want news media to start doing things like that? Doesn't that border on propaganda?

Maybe what it's time to do is for us, the viewers, to start paying attention to more than just sensationalism. If we watch it, they will do it. If we start watching the Climate News, Social Justice News, and ignore the political sensationalism they will change their programming strategies.

After all, it's all about the Benjamins!

Many people have decided not to use Trump's name because they concluded he was engaging in asshattery just to get people to talk about him. By reporting on what he does, the new influences what he does. It's the same with the most flamboyant other GOP politicians.
