At the top right of that column is an icon with three short horizontal lines. Click on it to show the button to "Pin" the column as a permanent column. (You can also pin and unpin it without having to re-create it from scratch.)
In the new pinned column, you can click the three-line icon again to expose a slide button. That opens entry boxes to add additional hashtags, so the hashtags for a particular topic can be together.

@AlphaCentauri Thanks. I was just thinking I'd like to do that and wondering how.
@AlphaCentauri I use the firehose as a kind of stock ticker. It just passes bny and from time to time I see something on there that is intriguing and I click on it and if I like it I follow the user in question.
I can’t imagine anyone trying to read all of it. It’s crazy quick sometimes.
#MeetTheHashtags
Use the "Search" box located above the post composing window to see which hashtags people are using most, to try to help standards develop. (Click on each result to see posts; the number listed only refers to the most recent days' posts.)
To create a pinned post, click on a hashtag, either in your search results on in any post. A new column will open with posts using that hashtag.
