So I talked to a guy loading people's cars at the store I was at today. He appeared to be autistic, and he had very definite opinions about Donald Trump. Another autistic guy I know also has strong opinions, and accurate ones.
Has anyone met any autistic Trump supporters? It occurred to me that maybe having a mind that interprets political speech more literally makes one somewhat resistant to being swayed by hypocritical bullshit.
@AlphaCentauri
I’m autistic, and I’m not a Trump supporter. I don’t think autism and political affiliation/alignment are correlated in any way, or at least directly since we generally adopt egalitarian beliefs after years of mistreatment by society. But of course, there are exceptions.
@AlphaCentauri there’s actually a lot of autistic people in the far right feeder movements like incels etc. But I’d wager there’s no population-wide correlation. I feel like I also know an absurd number of autistic *hardcore* lefties. Personally I think we’re just more inclined to believe the ever loving crap out of what we believe. Studies have shown we tend to be more morally consistent than neurotypicals which would speak to that, I’d argue. Haven’t seen specific studies on politics though.
@AlphaCentauri i don't think peeps w/ autism are any more or less susceptible to political bs than neuro typical peeps.
i've seen plenty of peeps on social media identifying on the asd spectrum be for & against trump.
