@cmajuscula I suspect that the statistically most common cause of death due to #ClimateChange is likely to be war and the breakdown of civil society.

I think we can safely say that the 1.5 degree C limit for global warming proposed in Paris was at best aspirational. It is clear that the oil producing nations haven't made enough money yet and are too dense to understand that, at this rate, all the money in the world can't save them from their own avarice. The 1.5 number is now out of reach as a limit. We now look to 2.5, but with tipping points on the edge, even now, that goal is also unrealistic. My expectation is now 8 to 12. #ClimateChange

@DyDave To all these countries complaining about the word "could"... please. If the US, China and the EU all developed independent and aggressive limits on oil and gas usage whilst promoting renewable tech through targeted investment and regulation, then nothing that happened at COP 28 will matter. No one will buy their oil, as there won't be a demand for it. The problem can be solved by demand-side economics. #ClimateChange

@DJNoneYa True. But... Wind and Solar cannot be a grid base with current tech. We need hugely better energy storage, and we need other reliable base-load providers. Geothermal can provide this, but will require the expertise of big oil to do it in an economically viable way. The tech is there to make #geothermal viable almost everywhere. Big Oil needs to get on board that train.
