Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s attempt to block a voter registration drive in one of his state’s most populous urban counties — and biggest Democratic strongholds — has failed in state district court.

On Monday, State District Judge Antonia Arteaga dismissed the Republican attorney general’s lawsuit against Bexar County, the home of San Antonio.

But also very sobering to realize how many basic American rights hang by a thread, depending on the rectitude of the many judges who remain dedicated to their oaths of office.

Yet a main thrust of the GOP for decades, especially effective in the Trump years, is to replace such judges with corrupt political pawns, from the lowest to the highest bench.
