I am no longer in the changing hearts and minds business. I'm all about supporting and lifting up my fellow freaks.
I went through a phase where I sincerely worked to change minds. There were a handful of people who, after many hours of work, started to be open to changing their minds. All of 'em just went right back to their bigotry.
And those were the people who were willing to engage and weren't outright hostile.
Then I went through a phase of correcting/challenging assholes, for people who might be watching.
Now I'd rather create my own art and buy the art of other marginalized folks.
@tyghebright same same. i mean, i still do this in my work when i can. when it's safe. b/c my job is partly to create better understanding & promote kindness & tolerance.
but fuck it's exhausting. and so diminishing of one's personhood.
it's why, i think, i've become so misanthropic these days. after work, i don't want to fucking deal w/ people. the likelhood of assholery is high & i can't be bothered.
@tyghebright i stopped engaging w/ peeps who are stupid. racist. misogynistic.
i don't need you to agree w/ me. but i do need you to consider me an equal human being & not an inferior one to you.
if you consider me inferior, what more is there to discuss? 🙄
