I mentioned a while back that I was preordering the #RingCarCam specifically because it's the first cam equipped with #TrafficStop recording which is going to be ideal for myself and my other Black tribemate.
When you're getting pulled over you can tell it to record using your voice. No need to move your hands to reach for anything and get shot. It uploads footage to the cloud in real time and notifies your emergency contact who can then use 2 Way Talk and Live View on their end to monitor.

So I got the #RingCarCam installed - I lied to it about where my OBD was located. I tested everything and all the features work EXCEPT the most important one ... making sure my chosen emergency contact is notified as soon as a #TrafficStop recording has begun.
My tribemate didn't receive any notification on her phone when I tested it. I'm chatting with support now to see if this is something that it even does .
She can connect anytime live to my cam and see and talk to me tho.
If the #RingCarCam doesn't notify my shared user the moment a #TrafficStop recording has started then it's useless to me. It's important for me to know that my family is aware - in real time - when I have started a recording so they can monitor what is happening live.
Chat support was useless. Looks like I will have to call Ring directly.
So ... one more time for those in the back ... especially those non-PoC who don't seem to understand why this device is important for certain people to have access to. I really don't care about your thoughts on Ring or the police ... what I care about is the safety of my family and the accountability and monitoring it provides. If you don't agree or don't understand why this is important ... please keep your comments to yourself.
So I just to follow up on this post ...
I was finally able to speak with someone competent at Ring about the fact that the #RingCarCam DOES NOT in fact notify anyone on your contact list - not even shared users - when a #TrafficStop recording has started despite what early articles about the camera detailed.
They said the notification feature NEVER made it into the final software build and they had no plans to add it.
It's RIDICULOUS honestly as that was the whole reason I wanted the cam.
The guy I spoke to did think it was also odd.
I explained that as an African American driver, the security added in the fact that my emergency contacts would be notified as soon as I was pulled over was a huge selling point.
Ring was clearly trying to cash in on the rampant racism in traffic stops and the ridiculous number of deaths associated with them with the #TrafficStop HANDSFREE recording feature, but didn't make the one extra step to add something so crucial?
That's just stupid.
@thewebrecluse It is horrific that we need something like this today, but I'm glad it exists. Not having to manually turn it on will literally save lives.
Not to be in dad mode... But you got a separate LTE account for it?
And said, Alexa I'm getting pulled over.??

@InvaderGzim Ring is looking into this issue.
@InvaderGzim @thewebrecluse separate cell phone accounts for each product now kinda crazy to think how short of time has passed by since cellphone's even existed.
@Rupiefied2020 @thewebrecluse
More like an addon account...
For Verizon it's $10/month extra...
Yearly subscription for the pup's taking collar...
@thewebrecluse That is horrible and I hope you can get a refund for this camera.
@Myana I will keep it because the ability for my tribemates to connect remotely to the camera DURING my drive is actually pretty useful.
For my own security it's nice to know they can be watching the entire time. Ideally, yes, it would be better if they knew when to connect during any kind of emergency but, for now, they just usually watch me during the drive or connect randomly.
We also have Life360 for GPS tracking also. Between both, I feel a bit better about being alone on a drive.
@thewebrecluse And I wonder how many people don't test it and so don't realize it's missing. This info needs to be spread far and wide.
@HealingHobbit Sadly, this doesn't seem like a feature anyone actually cares about to be honest ... including Ring themselves.
For your safety, I’m glad this is available.
But it sickens me.
No one should have to live like that.
✌🏼❤️
@MrsDanaD ❤️ Thanks. I just hope it works as advertised. I'll be testing it out today if I manage to get it installed.
Installation…always the fun part.
🙄
@MrsDanaD 😂 right
Ugh.
It’s the worst.
@thewebrecluse this confuses me. Ring is known to openly work with police for your doorbell. You have to specifically opt out of that.
But then make a dash cam that seems to be in opposition to police. 🤔
I hope it connects and works for you. I like the concept, curious on the execution.
@Kurtroedeger Not sure how this is in opposition to the police.
@thewebrecluse a means of accountability outside of their control.
Not something they like.
@thewebrecluse Isn’t Ring the company that was providing client video to ICE?

I'd actually like to stream the real time #TrafficStop footage live to social media for even further accountability, not just to the cloud storage on my Ring account.
It arrived today but MAY NOT be compatible with my car due to the fact that it uses your OBD-II port and some cars have it on the right or left side (right is incompatible)

I need to check mine because I swear mine is on the right side.
If it installs, I'll test all the features and report back.
