: the inimitable Stephen McHattie
He's had a long and storied career and is an actor of astonishing range and depth, and I truly wish he'd have been able to be the Big-Time Screen Idol he should've been for decades now.
Everything I've seen him in since the '70s, even the cheap tv stuff, is a Good Acting class, at worst, or a Master Class, at best.
: Because @JolieSaboteuse is posting up about the movie, as well one should, I’mma add this. It’s only one of the best on around rescue and escape scenes ever put to film, and you’ve got a hand a lot of that #hotdamn it the late, great James Horner, who scored that music.
: I got home today today, and I immediately heard barking from across the street. Rylo spotted me. He was still inside the house, just barking furiously, not to mention, jumping up and down, at the window at the side of their front door across the street. He had not seen me in a week.
He is my good fren.
We played outside for about five minutes, but it’s 92°F today, and so neither one of us were really up to doing much.
: I know the photograph is sideways, but I’m not fixing it. That said, I saw the sign on the cabinet door, and so I took a box of Kleenex on the counter and put it under the sink.
As I told Dottie, i’m a loner, a rebel.
I am #edgyAF.
: The movie's shot by Giovanni Ribisi, who's a tremendous actor and a great cinematographer, but it's hard, for me at least, to not see how incredibly alike the framing and all of the movie is to many other recents. That said, it's lit exponentially better, at least to my eyes. Additionally, it was totally shot on 35mm, and you can tell, and it's beautiful.
What got me is the damned sound design. I mean damn.
: Well, I got sound-mixed out of a movie today. I went to see "Strange Darling", and what I saw of it was interesting, but...
...the sound mixing and the music is, for my ears and neurology, oppressive, and I have never ever had that happen before. I lasted about 20mins. or so. I'll wait for it to be on streaming. That said...
As stylish as it looked, it's definitely one of the latest crop of horror films that kinda seem to be copying the visuals of Fede Alvarez.
Texas AG Paxton raids Latino Democrats' homes, including those of LULAC members https://www.cbsnews.com/news/texas-attorney-general-ken-paxton-raids-latino-democrats-lulac-homes/ "Lidia Martinez, an 87-year-old who.. works to expand voter registration among seniors and veterans in South Texas. She said that last Tuesday, there was a knock on her door in the morning, and she was greeted by nine officers in tactical gear and firearms who said they were executing a search warrant. Martinez was questioned for over three hours about her voter registration efforts in Texas."
: It looks as if some of the pressure on Iran may be bearing some small fruit. The Grand Poobah has told its subordinate civilian government that it could open negotiations with Washington, D.C. about its nuclear program, though he reiterated the usual “our enemy” bullshit. I get it that he has to talk a big game and try to save face, but Khomeini wasn’t even good at that, and he was the OG.
: I got to enjoy enchiladas tingas at my favorite little Mexican place in Aiken today. This is one of the only two restaurants I miss in this entire state. If I won $100 million in the lottery, I would buy the whole place and a higher all the staff and pay for them to move up to where I live now open the restaurant up in Wilkesboro.
(if you’re gonna have $100 million, you might as well put it to good use for civilization.)
