: That said, I can drive/direct my dreams much of the time. When I'm dreaming I usually understand that I'm dreaming. Sometimes I rewind my dreams some, if they're interesting, and run them in different directions, like a director getting another take on a scene.

I couldn't do that when I was a kid or in my early twenties, though. I don't know how I became able to do it either. I just noticed I was doing it when I was in my late twenties. Weird.

: Interesting. Over a century of research shows that 80% to 90% of adults have nightmares, that nightmares are normal.

I've not had a nightmare since early 2008, since maybe six months after my divorce was finalized and recorded in early November of 2007.

I'm speaking as someone who remembers his dreams but who no longer writes them down every morning. I gave that practice up in the summer of 2016.

I haven't had bad dreams much at all to speak of since.

: Personal double standards are weird but unsurprising. They will always be weird to me. At 52, I doubt they will ever make sense, not at this point. They are just to be expected and dealt with, and there is delight to be had when and if they do not appear.

That's the thing about principles, belief systems, ethics, morals, or whatever one wants to call them. If they are situationally flexible, they are an act.

: ...eventually, and they'll process it however they're gonna. Part of for me was putting together that that's how an awful lot of people operate, and they were doing it well before social media and before the internet. Hyde park is legendary for it, as are soap boxes in general.

I save arguments for when they're going to count, which to be honest, is not often.

: This is one of the most widespread and consistent behavior patterns I see in humans, and it's not in re: things they are coerced into or forced to do. I'm talking about things they do voluntarily, by habit, and includes things they do to other people.

The behaviors are, after the fact, usually explained/excused by something that begins with, "I know, but I just get so [emotion or emotions]."

: As a kid, is often spent having a hecka time trying to make sense of people's behavior vs. what people say. It's also spending a lot of time being sometimes frightfully uncertain whether or not what you're saying and/or doing is accurate/proper for the moment/situation because you usually brace reflexively for penalties up to and including some form of violence. It's fundamental to why we mask, alas.

3/2: ...malicious insults, trolling, stalking, and such but common social interactions and topics such as politics, use of swear words, casual terms of address, religion, and any number of other social and cultural topics or subtopics, as well as whether or not people agree on such things.

Emotional self-awareness and self-regulation often plays a part in the equation, as do attitudes towards other people, i.e., as people or at objects.

Humans are weird.

: One from my IG a while back, and yes, it's true what I wrote about what I've said that matches what Melvin said in the movie.

: One of the stranger things about for some of us is that, like some number of synaesthetes, there are shapes, numbers, sounds, and inanimate physical objects that are either appealing, friendly, comfortable, and personable or ugly, discomfiting, and malign.

I bring this up this morning because it's why I can't play the Spelling Bee game from the New York Times. That shape is ALL kinds of WRONG. For me it's got weird textures and vibrations and is VERY offputting.

: An observation and an experience made long, long ago and still seen and sometimes experienced as recently as this year.

It's a cycle of human behavior that people forget over and over and attempt to escape it only to repeat it repeatedly.

Humans this fractals are cool because they're indicative of behavior.

: what people do not expect when they know just enough about one of my special interest to be dangerous and start an argument over it
