I'm going to do some more #NeedleFelting tomorrow. Time to make a Santa bauble, ready for my Christmas tree.
@QueenOfEverything
It ought to work.
If you have felting wool of a similar colour you can use that and the needles to fill any gaps, I'm sure of that and if the colours are a good match, the repair could be almost invisible.
Otherwise, darning like fixing a sock might be a better option.
I'm ready to make PAW CUFFS for these cats. I've only got 1 BAD BAD CAT who loves to scratch on these chairs. All the other cats use the 3 cat trees, 6 scratching posts & the rubbery front door mat like GOOD CATS.
Finn the Shadow Gray- BAD CAT EXTRAORDINAIRE has a vet appointment next week, with a professional claw clipping included.
@QueenOfEverything I've never been owned by cats so I can't advise! Sound's so frustrating though.
Oh, they're actually wonderful fur companions... except for the BAD BOI. It's frustrating because there are CAT TREES EVERYWHERE and he scratches on all of them. Anyway, thanks for the assist. I've had "felting needles" on my mind and when your post popped up... I took it as a "Sign"!
It's mostly frayed ends to weave back in- most damage in the middle of the chair- where they try and kick the upholstery. A darning egg would be great but I'm doing the reverse here- trying to stick threads back into chair.
I'll give it a try. Thanks!

Good luck, that's a nice chair! Sounds like it will work. I fixed the seat in my truck that way (darning like Stuey suggested), it's almost invisible.
@p3R1n01D The great thing about these chairs is the wonderful multi-colors. Any mending will immediately blend it- so that's a lot better than a smooth one color fabric. I need to fix the CHAIRS bc it's time to get all the Christmas decorations out. And I will actually have live humans over that will want to sit on the chairs (w/o cat blankets on them)!

Visitors can be so picky! π π€£ β€οΈ πΎ
@QueenOfEverything
That's an awesome chair! I love that fabric. Well worth saving.
You might have a little success with felting needles but I would definitely find some felting wool to add some extra strength between the strands if I were to use that technique.
Do you think you could get a lining material behind the frayed areas as an extra layer of strength?
Actually there are two chairs, swivel rockers and I LOVE THEM. But I always keep them covered with giant plush blankets to protect them. Finn sneaks under and scratches anyway. He does it for attention.
On the places where the scratches are deep, I can take a knitting needle to push a lining material behind the threads. Good idea. I'll experiment with some felting wool... the upholstery is actually cotton mix weave. Might get some heavy duty cotton thick/thin yarn & try too.
@QueenOfEverything Best of luck!

@QueenOfEverything FWIW I saw someone here post a picture by someone who collected their cat's hair and used that to make a felt tophat *for the cat* π€£π€£π€£
