I’m just curious. What is the most depressing book you’ve ever read? For me, it was A Fine Balance. When I thought things couldn’t get worse, they did. Not sorry I read it though. I still think about it from time to time.
This may not be a good time to ask this question but I’d appreciate any responses. Thanks. 🙂
It was an Oprah Book Club pick in 2001 I think. That’s what prompted me to read it.
A River in Darkness by Masaji Ishikawa
It's the story of living in North Korea, facing brutal social consequences, extreme poverty, widespread starvation, and violence...and finally escaping to a life where he's a second class citizen in Japan.
Not the most well written book, but completely harrowing.
@tyghebright I’ll check out that one. Thanks.
I also strongly recommend On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous by Ocean Vuong. Absolutely stunning prose.
@tyghebright my Amazon cart is overflowing now. I’ll probably try the library first though. But I use Amazon for reminding me of what I want to read. Thank you for the suggestions.

Woah Nelly!
Back up!
You're actually *reading* your TBR pile?
Should I call an ambulance?
A psychiatrist?

I mean. I'm always reading my TBR. It's just that I'm usually also making it longer.
