Gonna be a lot of outrage posts from the crap that is coming down from Madison Square Garden fascist rally. Might be a good time to use the tools.

@elbutterfield Oh I am using allllll the tools including mute and even block.
The outrage farmers make it their mission to circumvent our filters by avoiding or misspelling keywords. Those asshats can get lost!

@stueytheround
I saw a post in the Firehose the other day, it made me realize how hard it is for people using filters. Every single name in it was a stupid nickname meant to skirt the filters. That's just rude!

@elbutterfield

@TomeReader @stueytheround So hard! I find that I will have a filter for the original word, plus ten or more variations. Cripes!

@elbutterfield @TomeReader @stueytheround

okay, i feel guilty- i don't always use real names and I do use the :Asshat: icon A LOT. didn't occur to me that it wouldn't be caught in filters.

I try and tag - are there other top of your block/filter list that would make things easier?

@QueenOfEverything @TomeReader @stueytheround No perfect solutions, really. Sounds like you are being thoughtful, which is all we can ask. I admit that when big news is happening fast and furiously, I will forget to use "Politics". Mea culpa.

@elbutterfield @TomeReader @stueytheround

"The Tools" are important and really set CoSo apart from the riff-raff. I always tag cats, wildlife (animals not bars!), knitting- personal things that I know special groups relate to- but not everyone.

However, these are very tense times for everyone- so whatever we can do to make things easier- we will try. Using accurate names will help the filters- so that's one thing to add to the list.

@QueenOfEverything @elbutterfield @TomeReader @stueytheround

Keep in mind that some of us are so frikkin tired of "that guy" that we don't want to invoke his real name. That's why he's often referred to as "the former guy" or TFG. So it might not be meant to "skirt the filters", just something that's done for sanity's sake. Ironic that it's now causing even more annoyance to those here who don't want to be reminded of his existence!

@CJLavoie Oh no! That's not what I mean at all. TFG is really common, so much so that I use it knowing that it's in most people's filters already.

There are some, however who quite deliberately use *unique* nicknames while also avoiding other keywords such as "election" or "vote" or "politics" in order to actively evade filters. It's disrespectful and particularly as I am BRITISH and don't have a dog in that fight, bloody annoying, too.

@QueenOfEverything @elbutterfield @TomeReader

@stueytheround @CJLavoie @QueenOfEverything @TomeReader We all have a dog in this fight. What happens here, ( I am so sorry) will affect the world.

@elbutterfield Sorry for shouting! That's what I meant by having no dog in the fight. I can not in any way influence the result.

@CJLavoie @QueenOfEverything @TomeReader

@stueytheround Oooh, I was interested in following that convo, but it seems @CJLavoie has me blocked despite me not having a clue who they are.

Anyway, for what it's worth, even when I use 'unique' names for certain politicians, I'm always careful (unless I genuinely forget) to use a 'politics' hashtag too

And Stuey, I agree with what @elbutterfield says - even if we can't vote, the outcome of this election in particular affects much of the world of course 👍
