It seems to me the elephant in the room is the 2nd Amendment to our U.S. Constitution.
Red Flag laws, universal background checks, assault weapons bans, etc.will all likely run smack into conservative judges (SCOTUS is filled with them) who will say, "Oh No! Everyone has a right to own a gun in America".
Until we face the root of the problem, we can't solve it
The 2nd Amendment is an anachronism which must be repealed.
The 2nd Amendment was always about a well armed militia- like the National Guard. It was never intended for individuals.

Well it's either get rid of hundreds of conservative judges who read the Amendment according to their bias, or get rid of the Amendment.
