My sister just called and tried to wish me a Happy Thanksgiving:
She tried to get my parents to talk to me.
My Dad was in the background yelling at her to hang up and "stop talking to the communist traitor" and yelling loudly "stay in Germany with the rest of the Nazi's if you hate being in America so much you dumb bxxxx".
This is the man who taught me to ride a bike, ride a horse, shoot a gun, drive a car, look after my siblings, and love myself. ๐
I go home in a few weeks.
I'm scared.

Is there any way to make sure you're safe there? Take someone with you? Not stay at their house? Your safety is the first consideration, everything else comes next.
@AliceAllonym I have my own place there, and I will be spending most of my time with my sisters and slightly more open minded cousins.
I will be as safe as I can be.
I will go see my parents, but I am not going alone.
Hatred will not win.

@scotinus I'm hoping when/if my sister steps out of the bubble it'll give my parents something to think about.
But yes, it's just emotional outbursts with no soul to back it.

@quinnsentialOne I'm so sorry - that's awful. A good friend of mine lost their own father to Fox News and ended up cutting ties with him completely. That might not be right for you, but maintaining toxic relationships with anyone is very taxing on emotional and mental health. Boundaries are so important to both, but society is constructed in a way that enforcing them with close family members is often taboo,

I don't know if I could ever cut ties with my parents, they would force the rest of the family that does talk to me to cut me out entirely.

Sweet Jesus me too. It's crazy that I can't talk to my daughter without an argument but I will not allow the twice impeached piece of garbage keep me from my grandkids so I just keep my mouth shut

Family is very important to me, even in the middle of all this.
I need to make sure my sister and brother don't become like my parents.
I need them to see me and to hear me and hug me and know I'm still a real person in their lives and not just a voice on the phone or text on a screen.
The connection is so so important.

I hate to say it hon but you don't truly HAVE to go home :( you could like spend the holidays with friends or go volunteer w/homeless or veterans where they'd love love love that you are there! , I sure wouldn't unless I had a safe place to stay and at least one normal human to keep me safe while at his house! Magas are exploding all over and the Q ones are worse. Be safe above all and protect your heart!

My Dad, and Mom to a lesser degree, are both MAGA and Q believers.
My sister is MAGA, but not a Q believer. My brother is angry and lost, and stuck somewhere hard to understand.
I have some batshit crazy uncles whose property I will never step foot on again because they have gone full paranoia "they are out to get me" mode. ๐ฉ
