Dear Andy Cohen,
It is not "gay marriage". It is marriage. It's not hard, you idiot.
Love,
M.

I grew up in Hungary under the weakening end of state socialism. What passed for popular culture had a message that Western societies were evil. Movies about the American West always featured "Indians" as the good guys. I was working on a grad degree in American Studies when I found out there were movies w "Indians" as evil.

As the last weekend before the election draws to a close, I am finding myself tired, anxious, and agitated. This is not only because I am genuinely exhausted from my mail firm gig, or because I am a political scientist by training. It is because I remember election night in 2016. What happened to the presidency then, could happen to Congress on Tuesday.

Stacey Abrams is on and I am doing a double and triple take because she has lost so damn much weight. I hope she is okay 😱 Also, dearly hope she is not losing curves due to pressures from

I expect that Dems lose the House on Tuesday. I am a bit uncertain about what to expect for the Senate. Grim outlook.

Hold on a fucking second: they just said on that Dems may lose Miami-Dade. If that happens, all of FL will be totally red. And all of this mess of a country may be doomed.

Started a discussion w @sfleetucker the other day and I wanted to re-up this part: Black ppl in the US cannot be racists. They can be bigots, they can have prejudice and hate. But racism is supported by history, institutions, and a large-scale societal context of white supremacy. Because of the context and institutions they can rely on, it is only whites who can be racists.

but silly.
As approaches, shall I stock up on:

Been reading a good convo between @kel and @sfleetucker and it inspired me to post mantras:
*There is no war on Christmas because there cannot be
*Black ppl cannot be racist
*The US is not a liberal country
Happy to discuss any or all of the three.

I am a fan of his cartoons when they make me laugh, and also when they make me recoil

Watching Tim Ryan on and I am beginning to like him. Throwing shade at the DSCC, down to Earth, and although still not charismatic, he can hack this.

We are all oppressed by the dominant order of cis-heteropatriarchy. Every. Last. Damn. One. Of. US. I mean have you ever had a deep conversation with a cis-het white man in which you caught a glimpse of their emotional landscape? If they are also able-bodied, middle-class and educated, they are the dominant elite. But they all have the emotional scars to prove the crippling oppression of dominant norms. Not an excuse, ofc. But true.

Saw @TheNewsOwl post this article and wanted to share it with the sad reminder that it is not only patriarchy, but heteropatriarchy, and not only heteropatriarchy but cis-heteropatriarchy that screws with all of us as the dominant order cripples us. I have fury and sadness, but I am also very worried for the trans* folk who are dear to me.

Paul Pelosi attack, attack, fascism, MAGA. The through-line is I am kinda itching to give mini talks on gender...

The attack on Paul Pelosi is not an aberration or an exception. It is a pattern that is coming into view.

The whole process was hostile, and humiliating. What right to privacy? I had an Alien Registration Number, for fuck's sake. I have been tracked and followed so much, it extirpated any sense of privacy.

Been thinking about why I am not jumpy about privacy concerns. Being an immigrant in the US took away my sense of privacy. I was issued an ID number, entered into a registry, photographed and fingerprinted every time I traveled, had to prove I had no HIV and was not psychotic to get a green card, and then at one point put under oath for a citizenship interview in which in addition to the scripted questions, I was asked if I was turning college students into liberals. 1/2

Caught a glimpse of President Obama talking in Atlanta on TV and I got a lump in my throat. Every time I see him I wonder if missing a president is a fatal condition.

Using TFG or DFG was not satisfying to denote the missing link portrayed as the 45th President of the US, so I named him Cheetofuck. You are welcome.

The problem is the same one as always: Dems whine, can't unite around any issue, don't have the guts for ugliness. Reps are a masterclass in ruthlessness and will to power. So we hold our noses and vote like hell for unfocused whiners. Splendid.
