Was watching a British genealogy program. This stat blew my mind. In the 1890s one third of elderly people in Britain were in workhouses.

@poemblaze Crazy isn't it? I saw one about poor people housing in tiny squares of small units that went on until the last folks died in like the 50's!

@Tattoomonkey29 Yes. There were many houses that were only one or two rooms.

@poemblaze Yep , funny ,I dont remember learning about alla that when they covered how "wonderful" the Industrial revolution was for humanity !!

@poemblaze There was a depression in the states in the 1890s. Maybe it was international. I've even heard that it was greater than the great depression of the 1930s.
