2 km northeast of home, facing east. All main roads a further 8 km away are closed except for emergency services. Rail services suspended to the east. I’m NOT in the danger zone here but it’s getting quite nasty. Looks like I’m not going to make it to my mother’s place for the rest of the weekend as planned: no transport access.

@BlueStateBabe I wish. No, bushfires. Towns & townships in an arc 45 km wide & to the east & south Of here are declared fire emergency areas, no longer safe to leave. But this isn’t very bad, 10 years ago similar areas suffered through massive firestorms causing the death of 178 people in the state.

@peemee Not good at all. Of course you heard about Paradise in California last year. Such extreme damage and breadth of wildfires was not heard of 20 years ago in this country, but is growing worse every year. From what I understand, Australia has a much longer history of these wildfires. Thinking of all the oil in those eucalyptus trees!
