“I'm one of the oldest farts in the Old Farts Club.” Yesterday a couple of us were having a lighthearted discussion about age on LinkedIn. Ageism is real, and I get it, actually. Since I’m 69 years old, and I’ve been consulting since 2003, I’ve had plenty of opportunities to work with people of all ages in Information Technology. Want to know what I’ve found?

Today we went to the Titanic exhibit currently in Seattle. It was fantastic, and I highly recommend it! There are real artifacts recovered from the ship.
In the Memorial Room at the end of the exhibit they have displays with the names of everyone who died. It shows their name and age. It was sad to see the names of babies and toddlers. On the list of crew members who died, the oldest was William Cheverton. Find his name near the center of the picture. He was probably close to retirement.

If you use Windows, here’s an interesting little command to run to find stray New Folders:
[For the local Documents folder]:
dir c:\"New Folder" /s > %userprofile%\Documents\NewFolderList.txt
[For the OneDrive Documents folder]:
dir c:\"New Folder" /s > %userprofile%\OneDrive\Documents\NewFolderList.txt
Before you delete them, be careful – you may find that files were saved to the folder. The better choice may be to rename it.
It’s been an interesting couple of days. I’ve been doing a deep-dive into SPF, DKIM, and DMARC for a problem a client was having with their email. Lo and behold, I ended up learning that my own email could be better secured. Fixed it, and set up RUA and RUF logging. Now I’m wondering if I can sell setting up email correctly as a service. There must be lots of small businesses who are having trouble with some of their emails being rejected, and they don’t know how to fix it.
I found the answer to the outage with the Microsoft Edge home page today. It was a major Azure outage in their CDN.
