has anyone else read the full letter from Murphy to Biden?
i have a serious question about the paragraph on p.2 that begins, "Section 7... dated October 1, 2020...".
Where it reads, "...which provides continuing appropriations to you until December 11, 2020..."
1. Why was this Act amended literally *JUST BEFORE* (less than 1 month) the General Election??
2. Biden only gets funding for his transition & offices in a finite amount, UNTIL 11 DECEMBER??
@SvetBeard
ahhhh HA!
- so, they do not fund any "potential" winner OTHER than CovIDfefe beyond the last business day before the electoral college meets?
- is this normal protocol?
- why and WHAT was amended on 1 Oct, 2020??
@naikarrah I just looked up Public Law 116-159. It's the continuing resolution that funds the government at the beginning of the fiscal year (Oct 1) for 10 weeks (Dec 11). ALL federal appropriations end that day. It's nothing more nefarious than the usual budget squabbling.
@SvetBeard @naikarrah read more than you'd ever want to know about it here: https://fas.org/sgp/crs/misc/R46582.pdf
@SvetBeard
cool! i sincerely appreciate you taking the time to look that up and it helps me heaps, so
@naikarrah The continuing resolution to fund the budget was 116-159. That is why it bears this date. 12-11 is the date the CR expires. That's the next moment of Washington shenanigans.
@naikarrah The electors formally meet on Monday, December 14. December 11th would be the previous business day.
