i look back on it
and chuckle now
but decades ago
in high school
i declared myself an alien
i could find no other way
to reconcile
how differently i thought
than the others in my school
roll forward to now
i have embraced differentness
i am who i am
a person does not
have to be the same
as any other person
you find points of intersection
with other people
and that is where
you communicate with them
discover enough of those
points and people
to be known as yourself
