Over 60% of homes are built to withstand only a Cat 2 Hurricane's max winds of 110mph. Before the 1990's, when construction codes were updated, coastal homes were built to withstand winds speeds of up to 95mph or a Cat 1 Hurricane.

@Bliss my house in Puerto Rico where I grew up was build in the early 60’s, made of concrete with steel beams. It survived Maria almost intact.

Exactly! Concrete homes make it, wooden homes are like match sticks in Cat 2 hurricanes and above.
