Have you noticed the way
The darting swallows shine
As they catch the early light
From the morning sun?
And gold grass shimmers
As it dances in the breeze
As the green waves billow
On the meadow.
There are linnets on the thistles
Singing whispers to the sun
And skylarks making music
When I thought that they had gone
Have you heard the peace of summer strumming heather on the moor,
As the white owl
searches for her lover?
#CoSopoetry
The glory
And the peace
Of a silver summer morning
Mackerel sky
A gentle breeze
Swallows flying
Low on the meadow.
Two clover blooms
Lilac and white
Fragile
On thin spindles
Standing proud
Together and small
Too beautiful for the grazing
And lucky with the blades
of the midsummer mow
So many reasons to fade away
So many reasons to grow.
#CoSopoetry
West wind
I can tell you are there
Soft and damp
A gentler air
Crystal dewdrops shining
Lighting scented clover
from its curly sleep
Swallows love soft turbulence
Flying sorties over meadows
Calling wild and free
Between the grazing sheep
I can hear the hum of bees
The wheels of summer
Turning as the trees
Darken,
leaves more lustrous now,
Gathering light and shining
like we gather love
To store it up
For darker days.
#CoSopoetry
A soft day
Swallows stream
Flowing low
Over the surface
Of purple-blue fields
Of tall grasses
Waving gently
Wisps of mist
Twisted by the mills
Revealing the layers
The flow of the air
Trefoil and Vetch
Lies low on the verges
Beautifully simple
So gently lit
What's the hurry?
Why worry so much
About what might be
When the glories
Are already here
Waiting for you
#CoSopoetry
A butterfly day
Bright blue and shining
Meadow browns
delight in spirals
Their love twists skywards
Like smoke from a furnace
Up to the highest part
Of a perfect sky
I can see them dancing now.
And higher still
A Raven pair flies
Deep in their joy
Turning steep somersaults
Their love descending
In spirals together
Down to the sweetness
Of deep scented clover.
#CoSopoetry
Out into the soft grey
Of a rainy day
Summer sits softly
On the purple clover
Of overgrown byways
Fallen stars of
Golden buttercups
Light the fields
Like fallen stars
Shining through the mist
Drifts of pink cranesbill
Waving in the breeze
And a cloud of golden
Tinkling finches
Sprinkle glitter as they go
Over fields of white clover
Deep as winter snow
#CoSopoetry
Meadowsweet
and honeyed Elder
Perfumed summer
Gentle breeze
Rustling through
the papery birch
Wren song lingers
Long beyond
its thrilling edge
Cherries dangle
Little jewels
Dropping down
like crimson quavers
From a summer song
My head is full
Of spice and sweetness
And the softness of music
sounding low
from dew-dappled branches.
#CoSopoetry
How did it ever
Come to be?
A wasp, a tree
A lock, a key
And you, and me
Light drops softly
From the stars
As night walks gently
through the woods
And single notes
From hidden birds
Ring across
the tended lawns
I've heard the song
Of sweltering rains
Rushing through
the steaming glade
And far below
The ocean swells
And roars its lulling music
In return
#CoSopoetry
Last night
The strawberry moon
Lit the ocean silver
Strange birds
Made quiet music
And the air was shimmering
Today the sky is blue
And the ocean too
And all of the promise
of love in the morning
Is washing over
The rocks below
With a gentle rush
And filling my pools with longing
#CoSopoetry
Im high on the flow
With a gift of black rock
Floating.
Raging fire
and wild water meet
Lightning bolts
Electrify the air
A wild storm rages.
The sky and earth
And everything in between
Flowing
Alive with danger
A world full of risk
But the risk is the joy
Where hope springs eternal
Black sand,
My love
feels soft against my skin.
#CoSopoetry
A clay coloured thrush
Sings his aubade to the day
Each note dropping like a tear
The mountain stands silent
Watching over me
The plume of smoke
Rising from the top
A reminder
Everything changes
All of the time
But some things are timeless
And remain
Small birds are shining
They sing in the sun
They flitter and hum
There are jewels
Upon jewels
Upon jewels
#CoSopoetry
The Raven knows everything
About endings and beginnings
He's always there
At the gate
Waiting.
Do the Curlews know
There's something sacred
About the darkness of the day?
Spiralling up
Into the sky
Three white curlews
shining in the light.
Rising like white smoke
From a holy place
Singing to me
Hello
Goodbye.
#CoSopoetry
Softness and light
The pointillist
Paints the sky
A thousand dabs
of silver-white
Set before a silver sun
Veiled and dappled
Brightness tumbling down
A higher force
Is flowing.
Single notes
dropping from the sky
like silver rain
Skylark falling
Curlew calling
And a wall-tall snipe
Sings beauty to his mate
With a song
Of creaky bed-springs
In the night.
#CoSopoetry
Sing me a song
Of pink clover and buttercups
Sing me the song
Of the hillside in June
Fly with me
Out of bog cotton
And meadowsweet
Up to a sky-dream
Of cloudsilver blue
Give me the hills
And their tinkling waters
The scrub and the rushes
The fen and the flow
#CoSopoetry
1/2
I long for the wildness
Of unimproved pastures
Where butterflies flutter
And the brown hare lies low
Whisper me softly
In thyme and sweet clover
I'll make a soft pillow
To rest on, my love
And the world will keep turning
I will will keep yearning
For Skylarks and Curlews
And tall foxgloves
#CoSopoetry
2/2
Cold and clear
The air is trembling
And the breeze swirls
Silver spirals
In deep green fields
I'm keeping the company
Of three shining Curlew
Gliding down to where I am
Calling as they come
Angels alighting
To settle beside me
Calling my name
Brave and curious
At my breathless wonder
At a sacred moment
I turn to leave
They fly away
#CoSopoetry
All my summer flowers
Are hiding from the rain
A nest of vetch
Alight at the foot
Of my moorland oak
Somehow beautiful
Like a little song
In the night
I labour in thrall
To the dark west wind
All my thoughts
on struggle.
Notice the brightness
In the tinsel of a finch
And the weight is lifting
Swallows see the joy
And raise me
To the light.
#CoSopoetry
A wet wind
Blows from the west
A slow billow
Rolls across the hill
Tall grasses
Heavy in rain
Hushing silver
As I ride
A single ray of sunshine
Beaming down
An iridescent Lapwing,
Fragile in the light
Shining from the inside
With an emerald glow
Bright spirit
of the meadow
#CoSopoetry
Every day,
I watch,
You change,
Marking time
As I pass by,
Helping me to notice
The turning of the wheel.
Do you remember
The dark days
After gales
had robbed me,
And all that was left
Was my naked bones?
Now I see you shining.
I'll remember this day
You were dressed for summer
Lighting the air around you
With your smile
And I will hold you in my heart
This way.
#CoSopoetry
Three swallows
Dancing low
Over the rusty meadow they go
Like little gods
And, unlike me, today
Indefatigable
Messengers from another place
Heaven sent, perhaps
Inspiring
Swift
In their swept back wings
Even as a cold wind blows
These little lights are shining
Lifting the weight
Of any sadness
Changing my mind
As dark clouds dull
The summer sky.
