Something miraculous
About this mist
In all of its softness
Its folds
And unwindings
Delicately draped
Against the curve of the hill
A golden future
hidden then revealed
Joyful creatures know
Where the edges are
And they hover
Just beyond
The now-I-see-you
Singing.
Now I hear my Curlew
Calling from beyond
Softer than before
Flying with me
Through space and time
Even more beautiful

It's misty and uncertain
I woke early
in the small hours of the morning
And thought I heard a Curlew calling
But when I looked
She wasn't there
It was just the mark
That was etched on my heart
I cannot remember
The first time I heard her
Calling wild and free
But like the fine rain that's falling
This music is in my bones

@allin you are very kind. Thank you for reading😊

There's a music
Coming from the mountain
In the tumble of the stream
And the rustling of the reeds
As a gentle springtime breeze
Unsettles silver waters
And the rattling silver birch
A brown hare
Dazzles from the heather
And disturbs a courting
Curlew pair
Away to the top of the sky
Rising, calling wildly
Each to the other
I Love you, love you

In suspense
She was only exploring
The way curious creatures do.
No way to freedom
And no way back
From this,
without the help of another.
Trapped and trembling
on the lowest bar
Of a five bar gate
Feeling her little heart
beating fast
Noticing the wildness
of fear in her eyes
Speaking softly
Gathering her up
To return her gently
To her weeping mother
And all the while
The blackbirds sang
My favourite tune
And the wrens were mighty
In the wall

A song for the morning
Sung from the rooftop
Sung from the tree
Cutting the wind
With a whistling flute
Low and mellifluous
Beautiful top notes
Rain down on me
I'm soaked
in sweet music
Daffodils dance
At every milestone
Of my journey
I hadn't noticed
Until I did
And now I'm dancing
With the daffodils

All of the bluster
Of this shower-heavy
Shadow-shifting
Feather-fluttering
Crow-loaded
Wild westerly
Whistling low
Across the wire
Will not silence
The wild music
of a moorland spring
And the wind-blown thrill
Of daylight starlight
Of a wind-blown lark-speck
Whispering cloud songs
From the top of the sky

Theres silver blossom
In spindly trees
The other side
Of Lesser's wood
Daffodils are glowing
golden in the mist
All aligned
And swaying softly
in a south-westerly breeze
They always know
Where to look for the light
Even when the day is grey
And the fog lies heavy
On narrow shoulders

Springtime
And the longing of days
Has brought us here
To another landmark in the sky
A sense of quickening
And the silences are shorter
A Curlew pair
Beautiful in their shaded coats
Bathing ardently
in the boggy green
He watching over
She immersed
Then shivering off
her coat of shimmering droplets
Silver in the mist

There's nothing to say about today
It's grey and ordinary
There's no need to comment
On the depth of the green
Or the haste of the geese
As they hurry along
In line astern
To the west
No need to listen to the song of the lark
Or notice the daffodils
Glowing gold in the ditch
Or to stop in wonder
At the descending notes
As the Curlew flutes
To her rest.

Skylarks are singing
Over the rainbow
That glows
In an almost clear blue sky
The hint of a mist
Is all that it takes
To make a miracle
My dark shadow
has a bright halo
My ghost follows me
Out of the valley
And into the sky
Where Lapwings are dancing
Down by the quarry
And gilded Curlews
Ask beautiful questions
Of the daffodil sun.

There's a beautiful light
To the hills today
Under the silver grey
The green is deep
Like the leaf-lit forest
At a summer sunset.
Singing silhouettes
Of tinkling larks
pass sibilant song
From sky to sky
Their soft trills
Thrilling my ears
Breaking my heart kindly
With happiness.

White swans calling
From a clear blue morning
A wild and gentle fanfare
For the purity of spring
Shimmering brightly
To turn across the sun
Landing in tumult
On the high black lake
Still calling
as they sail
like gallant ships
Across the water
A Curlew sky
Alive with music
Rising from deep
Inside the moor
The whole world singing
On this radiant day

A proper drenching
Cold to the bones
A keen edge to the wind
And crows and gulls
Are up, are up aloft
I wish I could live
A Curlew's life
Summer in the mountains
And winter by the sea
Making beautiful music
Finding a way to gently go
In all of my quietness
Soft notes
My adagio
In the symphony
of my wildness.

The wind is wild enough
For the gulls to be sailing
There's joy in the air
Crows catch the edge of it
With long dark fingers.
A gliding Curlew
A babbling bubble
Calling across the meadow and
Racing with the breeze
Rain is falling
Somewhere between mist
And drizzle
Fine droplets
fly like pin tacks
Into my face
On my scouring descent.

Is it sunrise
Or is it sunset?
Whatever,
It is glorious
Or will be
Or maybe it
Had already been
Will it no longer be?
The ghost of herself
Heading home
Pulled along
by the future she never had
Held by the resistance
of present flow
Oh the weakness
of a heart of oak
Pulled back by it
Into history
So we stand on the very edge
A glorious past
An uncertain future
Surrendering to both
There is such peace here
In this shining morning
A new moon
Is rising.

A weighty mist
All the way
To the sky
No hint of brightness
Even at my high point
All puddle and hiss
A soft breeze
from the south south east
Blows me to the top
It's grim
Theres nothing to be seen
Beauty lies
behind the shroud
But there she is
Even though the light is dim
She sings her heart out
Clear and proud

There's a Little Owl
Sitting on his dry stone wall
There are roe deer grazing
By the wood,
Daffodils are stretching
Nearly touch the absent sun
And the east wind is flowing
Like a flood
The Curlew calls
From the deep of the hill
Where the skylark is singing fair
And I summon up a spirit
From the dream of a leap
Emerging from the mountain
In the shape of a hare

Even with the wind against you
Blowing you back
To where it thinks you belong
You are calm, and peaceful
Breathtaking in your presence
Utterly yourself.
Silent and glowing
Urgent and flowing
May I wait a while
And watch you going?
I feel soft wings
Silk against the rasping air
Ethereal light
Surrounding you
Gathers around you
You are all I can see
And you shine.
May all the spectres
of a troubled world receed
For this one moment
of golden, ghostly peace
