Out into owl-light
A breathtaking sky
Crimson burning embers
Frothy candyfloss
The wind and the hill
Against me
But I grow into my ride
As the sun rises
Dressed in a mantle
of bronze and shining
With the alchemists power
Turning the world to gold
My wheels are humming
As I descend
Flying with Ravens
I'm home.
#CoSopoetry
October rains
And a wind from the east
But it's warm in my heart
Blood red berries
Rowan and Hawthorn
Will light my way
And the gold in the woods
From beech, ash and maple
Will brighten my day
A Goldfinch cloud
Tinkles by
Twinkling golden
as they fly
Gulls are gathering
Geese are calling
The gorse alight
And constellations
Of shining buttercups
In the misty green.
#CoSopoetry
I was lost in a fog
No stars
to guide me
No rainbows in the sky
Even the morning light
Was dark
I see the walls
And willowherb embers
Aglow in the ditch
Listen carefully
Listen to the music
Even now,
When I was lost in a fog
A robin sings
The whole of love
The whole of life
Joy and sadness
Wishing and hope
Even here
When i was lost in the fog.
#CoSopoetry
A still autumn morning
Cloud sits low
Soft edges brushing
The tops of the hills
Jackdaws love
Testing their boundaries
Ascending steeply
Into the mist
Returning with joy
Into the light
Knowing they are loved
In the arms of the air
Each bird a point of agreement
In the conversation
Between turbulence and flow.
Each climb a days ending
Each fall a new dawn
Set down your haversack
Full of troubles
At the top of your highest hill
Face into the day
And fall.
#CoSopoetry
A misty, drizzle
Blown from the south
Powers me up my autumn hill
Leaves spiral
From a hushing sycamore
Lifting my spirits
With amber twirling
There's a Raven, high
Over the twisting mills
Singing his low, sad song
And the green of the summer
Is fading to dun
And I welcome the joy
of the cheerful rowan
Dressed in red berries
And waving,
And we say our farewells
To the sun.
#CoSopoetry
Silver light
From a veiled silver sun
The east a pool of silver light
A mackerel sky
The horizon a silver sea
And I dream that I was there
With silver waves
washing the shingle
Hushing the piping waders
On the rocks
I'm woken by the music
Of a hundred geese
Circling the black lake
Flying
And meadow pipits
in tinkling clouds
Sprinkling pipit music
Like little showers
On the moor.
#CoSopoetry
Beautiful
Silver sunlight
Slanting in
Fields sparkling
With crystal dewdrops
Woodpigeons
Like a fleet of galleons
Sailing on a wide green ocean
Pipits match my climbing
Hop by hop
Along the darks wall's
Mossy top
Wren song
In the shrubbage
Singing high and mighty
Like the world might stop
If he wasnt singing.
The world is full of music
And the shrouded sun
Would blind me with its beauty.
#CoSopoetry
The kind of grey
When you know the day
Will bring some sun.
A silver, clear light
A horizon magnified
Close enough to touch
The world laid out
as a map before me
I could go where I please
But I go the same way
Autumn scents load the air
With fruity spice
Fallen leaves in wind blown piles
Thistle-heads droop
They bear the weight of water
I saw a spiraling sparrowhawk
Trailing his burden
of worried pipits
Noisy as they pass
Knowing their enemy
Holding him closer still
#CoSopoetry
October
The winter birds are crying
And the cold North wind is blowing
Trees are bending southerly
Wild air moves through their leaves
There are pipits on the wires
Telling stories about summer
And the crows are climbing brave
Into the grey, grey day
My world's a misty hinterland
Where water gods are playing
Where the fields are rippling, full
Of the rains from yesterday
The road is like a river
Its surface shining silver
And new-made streams are flowing
Autumn trickling away.
#CoSopoetry
There's a choice to be made
On a day like today
When the whole of the sky
Cries down its rain
And low grey clouds
Might smother your joy
We can weep with the day
And take solace in knowing
That there will be brighter days
Or we can look for the light
The brilliant white
On the wheatears back
As he flies to the wall
And the golden stars
Shining like kisses
Amongst the sharp thorns
Of the scented gorse,
And know.
#CoSopoetry
Two hawthorns
Apart and together
On a bright horizon
Each in their own ground
But leaning in
towards the other
Topmost twigs
Intertwined
But not quite touching,
Each just in
The others space
From a distance
One beautiful tree.
Have you noticed
how the buzzard soars?
Holding air light
Beneath his wings
Its not the work of flying
Takes him high
But the rising air
Lifts him.
Let the beauty
Raise you
I'll let the beauty
Raise me
#CoSopoetry
The first frost
A crystal shine on
The blazing gold
Of the sunlit moor
Blue is in the heavens
And the music of small birds
I'm noticing the lovely trees
The bent old hawthorn
Crouching by the wall
My moorland oak
Her leaves now chocolate brown
The slender birches
Silver light
And slight, their fragile branches
Reaching out and swaying
In the gentle rippling
Of an autumn breeze
#CoSopoetry
It's as though the air is sparkling
It's like I'm in the land
In the landscape
Inside it
A part of it
And the air is moving
A soft breeze, breathing
And above me
There's gold and silver
And I'm completely
Taken by the music.

2/2
Misty again
But a thin mist
Somehow I can see through it
Into the green
Down to the valley
There were deer in the garden
Again last night
And I wonder what it all means
I chose the steep route
And worked hard for the summit
Followd by pipits
And goldfinches tinkling
Heard but not seen
Lost in the mist.
A single magpie
Watches as I pass by
But I feel no sorrow
Only joy
I can feel the light
#CoSopoetry
1/2
Autumn mist
And the ditch is burning
Bright with fireweed
And daisies.
The day feels lighter
There's hope in the air
As if it is shining
There's a song in my heart
The wires are loaded
With Rooks and Crows
Their solemn music
a requiem for summer.
My darling
I thought you had gone
for the winter,
But here you are
Still dancing
The last Swallow
Silver shining
As gold breaks open the mist
Like a little token
of love remembered
#CoSopoetry
My demons visited
Again last night
To ask me
as they often do
if I am worthy of love.
They know exactly
where to prod and poke
To reignite
that gnawing ache
And then I waken
Crying,
To see the grey dawn breaking.
Love is the grey ghost
That dances in my garden
I know you're here
Because I feel your footsteps
Falling,
Dancing in my heart,
And the demons ache
Becomes the ghost again.
I wonder if the Ravens
Know this pain
As they dance in pairs
In tumbling spirals
calling.
#CoSopoetry
The Ravens do
What the Ravens do
Bravely up
Beyond my ken
To fly above
My foggy world
I stay down here
In the land of men
And strain to reach
Your lofty heights
And every day
Again I'll try
No matter how hard
I cannot fly
I cannot join
Your raucous joy
With mine.
So I'll wait a while
And love the land
And take again
My lovers hand
And then perhaps
We'll fly together
To something
That approaches heaven.
#CoSopoetry
Certain
Like the moon
From a gentle fairy tale
No coldness or grief
Just magical
A firefly light
The sparkle of a smiling eye
And around it, glowing
Like a mantle of silk
A ring of bright night
A gentle embrace
This beautiful moon
Feels like a lucent kiss
in the deep silver dream.
Today the sun is golden
And the day is warm and blue
The island looks closer
So close I can almost reach out
And touch her gentle shore.
#CoSopoetry
The storm has passed
Blue skies and soft breezes
Last.nights moon
Made a gentle eye
A steadfast gaze
Reminds me how the world can be
When my darling looks at me
Deep softness
From the darkness
Silver, shining
Full of song
It fills my heart
For nights when there's no moon
And the clouds block out
the silver shining light
#CoSopoetry
All the bright colours
of the evening rainbow
Light the horizon
Behind the island
Like a dream
Out of the darkness
The full moon is rising
Shining down on you
Like a blessing
There's a fork in the road
And it does not matter
Which way takes you
You will find your way
I'm climbing on the fine edge
Between pain and joy
Knowing we will meet again
in whatever the rainstorm brings
And laugh.
Today is life
Tomorrow never comes.
